Man arrested after fatal assault in Co Kildare

A murder investigation is under way following a fatal attack on a man aged in his 30s in Co Kildare.

The 39-year-old man was found dead in a house in Sallins Park, Sallins just after 3am. He appears to have been stabbed.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested and is being detained at a garda station in Kildare.

Gardaí and the Emergency Services were called to the house at 3.15am, where they discovered the man's body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A number of people had been socialising at the house when the attack took place. The victim was originally from eastern Europe.

The area was sealed off and the State Pathologist's Office and the local coroner have been informed and the Garda Technical Bureau are carrying out a forensic examination.

The man's body has been removed from the scene and driven away in a private ambulance.
